About FedEx

Our Story

Frederick W. Smith founded Federal Express Corporation in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1971. The company began operations in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 17, 1973, launching a new era of overnight delivery.

On its first night, 14 aircraft delivered 186 packages to 25 U.S. cities with a team of 389 people. That pioneering air-ground network became the foundation of the global FedEx organization.

Today, FedEx serves more than 220 countries and territories, continuing to build on its legacy of innovation, speed, and dependable delivery.
